Why Printing Your Newborn Photos Is So Important

Preserving Memories Beyond the Screen

As a newborn photographer for almost 20 years, I have had the privilege of capturing many of the most meaningful moments in a family’s life—their baby’s very first days. Those tiny fingers, soft wrinkles, and sleepy little expressions are more than just sweet—they’re fleeting. And while digital galleries are convenient, there’s something truly special about holding those memories in your hands. I know how time consuming figuring out what you want printed and where you should put these. I would love to help guide you in this decision at my newborn studio in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Here’s why printing your newborn photos is one of the most important decisions you can make for your family

Prints Make Memories Tangible

In our digital world, it’s easy to let photos live on phones or computers. But there’s something powerful about a print. You can touch it, display it, frame it. It becomes a real, physical part of your home—a daily reminder of a moment that mattered. I truly believe printed photographs help families keep their history alive, give children a tactile testament of the love their parents have for them, and may perhaps even instill some small sense of self-esteem in their hearts. I have always loved the quote from Richard L. Evans, “Children will not remember you for the material things you provide, but for the feeling that you cherished them.” Having images on your walls and in albums for them to look at and cherish over the years is so important. Printed Photos Tell Your Family’s Story. Imagine your baby growing up and flipping through an album of their newborn photos. It’s more than just nostalgia—it’s their story. It shows them how loved they were from the very beginning. That kind of connection is something digital files alone can’t offer.

Technology Changes, Prints Last

Hard drives fail. Phones get replaced. Social media platforms come and go. But a printed photo? It doesn’t need a charger or a login. It will still be there, decades from now, in an album or frame, waiting to be passed down to your child someday.

They Deserve to Be Displayed

Your baby’s first portraits deserve more than a quick scroll on a screen—they deserve a place on your walls, in your nursery, in your family room. Seeing them every day brings joy, sparks conversation, and makes your house feel even more like home.

Albums and Prints Are Heirlooms

When you invest in professional photography, you’re investing in your family’s legacy. Albums, wall art, and prints become keepsakes you’ll treasure forever—and that your child will treasure, too, when they’re older. I love designing albums and helping my clients choose images for their walls. Custom albums can be added to your session during the booking process.

So print the photos. Frame them. Create an album. Hang them proudly.

These are more than just pictures. They are your baby’s first story—the beginning of everything. And it deserves to be seen, shared, and remembered for generations to come.

Would you like help creating a print collection or heirloom album from your session with me? I’d love to guide you through the process and help turn your digital gallery into something you can hold forever. Be sure to contact me for booking information. What You Need to Know Before Hiring a Newborn Photographer

Are you considering newborn photography but have some questions? Here is what you need to know before hiring someone.

Don’t worry, I’m here to help!

As a studio newborn photographer, I understand the value and importance of capturing these early moments of your baby’s life! If you’re a new parent, you’re probably overwhelmed with all the decisions you need to make. Newborn photography doesn’t have to be one of them. Let me guide you through the process and provide you with all the information you need to capture the early moments of your baby’s life.

The Chance of Lost Memories

I cannot stress to you enough about the importance of documenting this stage in your newborns life. When I was scheduled to have a C-section with my second child 28 years ago, we completely forgot the camera. We did not have phones with a handy and quick camera back then. I now don’t have the memory of his birth. I am so sad to this day. Remembering all his sweet new details are gone. So trust me when I say you will not regret capturing this time and having them forever.

So….Let’s dive into some of the most common questions about newborn photography.

“What should I look for when hiring a newborn photographer?”

It’s important to choose a photographer who specializes in newborn photography and has experience working with infants. At my Wilmington newborn studio, I have years of experience working with newborns and their families. I’m dedicated to providing a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experience for you and your baby. I understand the importance of capturing these early moments, and I take pride in creating beautiful, timeless memories that you’ll cherish for years to come.

“What can I expect during a newborn photography session?”

During a newborn photography session, I’ll work to create a comfortable and safe environment for your baby, and guide you through the posing process. You can include your family members in the photos, and I encourage parents and siblings to participate in this special moment. If you have any specific poses or props in mind, I’m always happy to incorporate your ideas and preferences into the session. To capture the best moments, it’s important to schedule your newborn photography session as early as possible, ideally within the first two weeks of your baby’s life. I recommend booking your session as soon as possible during your pregnancy to ensure availability.

Every newborn is different so learning what they like and don’t like during our pose selection is important to me. Making sure they are warm and fed is number one priority. With my newborn prep guide that I send to you prior to your session date will help us make sure they are comfortable. Also, my number one priority is making sure they are safe! If there is a special pose that you are requesting, I make sure there is assistance and baby is at arms reach and hands are always on baby. Making you and your baby comfortable in my studio is important. If you have any questions about my work please don’t hesitate to ask.

“Do I need to bring anything?”

You don’t need to bring anything to the session that is needed for me to work. I provide all the props, headbands, bonnets including backdrops, and blankets. However, I encourage you to bring a few personal items that you would like to incorporate into the photos, like a special blanket or toy (this is optional)!

“When will I get my photos?”

After the session, you can expect to receive the final edited photos within 2-3 weeks. I offer a variety of prints and products that can be purchased when booking your session or once your images are sent. I’m happy to work with you to create a customized package that meets your specific needs.

“How much does newborn photography cost?”

Newborn photography sessions can range from $450 to $650+ at my Wilmington newborn photographer studio. Depending on the package. Please keep in mind that newborn photography is a specialized service that requires a lot of time, effort, and equipment. I’m dedicated to providing high-quality images & products that you’ll cherish for a lifetime! I always like to make sure my clients are aware of the importance of printing their images and adding them to their walls. Don’t take the chance of loosing images to a faulty hard rive.

How to prepare for your newborn photography session at Inspirations Photography where everything is provided for you. Welcoming a newborn into your family is an exciting and life-changing event. Capturing those first few days with professional newborn photography creates timeless memories you’ll cherish forever. At Inspirations Photography, I want to ensure your session goes smoothly and your baby is comfortable, safe, and ready for their close-up. Here’s a helpful guide to prepare for your newborn photography session with me.

1. Schedule Early

Newborn photography sessions are best done within the first two weeks of life, ideally I like to see them between days 10 and 18. During this period, babies are sleepier, more flexible, and less prone to newborn acne. Although I have done them earlier than this and later than this as all newborns are different and go through stages differently. For nursing Moms, bringing them in too early can bring an extra fussiness if they are not getting the amount of milk needed and Mom is having to supplement. Bringing them in later can result in a very awake baby and for larger babies, they may not fit in many of my props. Contact us during your pregnancy to secure a session around your due date. Choosing a tentative date helps us all prepare for your session.

2. Keep Baby Awake Before the Session

Although, this may not work for many, depending on your travel time, it can help get them ready for their session. To get those adorable sleepy poses, try to keep your baby awake for 1-2 hours before the session. A bath, some playtime, or gentle stimulation can help. A sleepy baby is more likely to remain calm and pose easily. Sometimes I will hear rom parents that their baby was up most of the night…which can result in an amazing sleepy time for us.

3. Feed Your Baby Right Before the Session

A well-fed baby is a happy, sleepy baby. I like to call this being “milk drunk”. Plan to feed your little one right before your appointment. Depending on how far you are traveling, if you need the time to do this in my studio please feel free to do this before we start. If you’re breastfeeding, try to avoid caffeine and spicey foods 24 hours beforehand.  Extra bottles of milk are also a recomendation or you are welcome to nurse during breaks.

5. Bring Essentials

Pack extra diapers, wipes, a pacifier, and extra milk. I keep my studio warm for baby’s comfort, so dress in light layers. Also, if you forget any of these items from home…my studio is fully stocked. I try to make sure this time is as comfortable and stress free as possible

Our studio inside Womb’s Window 3D/4D Ultrasound Studio is fully equipped and sanitized, and safety is my top priority. I will handle your baby with care and ensure a calm, relaxing experience for everyone.

Importance of Newborn Photography

The early days of a newborn’s life are filled with incredible beauty and wonder. It’s a time that goes by in the blink of an eye, and capturing these moments through photography allows you to hold onto them forever. Newborn photography is more than just taking pictures; it’s about encapsulating the love and joy that surrounds the arrival of a new family member.

Newborn photographs serve as a tangible reminder of the incredible bond between parents and their baby. They freeze time and preserve the tiny details that change so quickly as your child grows. These photographs become treasured keepsakes that you can look back on with fondness and share with future generations.

Understanding the Importance of Newborn Photography

Newborn photography is a specialized genre that requires a unique set of skills and expertise. Unlike other types of photography, newborn photography focuses on capturing the fleeting moments of a baby’s first weeks of life. These moments are incredibly precious and can never be replicated. Therefore, it’s crucial to find a photographer who understands the significance of these moments and can capture them with care and precision.

Choosing the Right Newborn Photographer

When it comes to selecting a newborn photographer, there are several factors to consider. You want someone who not only has technical expertise but also understands the unique challenges working with newborns. Their ability to create a safe and comfortable environment for your baby is crucial.

Researching newborn photographers in Wilmington, North Carolina, will help you narrow down your options. Look for photographers who specialize in newborn photography and have a portfolio that aligns with your desired style.  If you are a client of Wombs Window at either of the offices be sure to look for our coupon in their gift bag.

Factors to Consider When Selecting a Newborn Photographer

Choosing the right newborn photographer involves more than just looking at their portfolio.

Find a photographer who follows proper newborn safety, such as using sanitized props and maintaining a comfortable temperature in the studio. Look for a photographer who has experience handling and soothing newborns, as this will contribute to a calm and relaxed atmosphere.

Another important factor is the photographer’s style and aesthetic.

Every photographer has their own unique approach, so it’s essential to find one whose style resonates with you. Whether you prefer classic, posed portraits or more candid, lifestyle shots, make sure the photographer’s portfolio reflects your vision.

Lastly, consider the photographer’s level of professionalism and communication. A good photographer will be responsive, answer all your questions, and guide you through the entire process. They should be able to provide clear information about their pricing, packages, and any additional services they offer.

Tips for a Successful Newborn Photography Session

Preparing for a newborn photography session can help that you get the best possible results. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your session:

1. Schedule the session within the first two weeks of your baby’s life. Newborns are sleepier and more easily posed during this time.

2. Keep your baby well-fed and comfortable before the session. A well-rested and content baby will be more cooperative during the shoot.

3. Dress your baby in simple, comfortable clothing. Avoiding disrupting them as little as possible.

4. Be flexible and patient. Newborns have their own schedule, and the session may take longer than expected. Trust the photographer’s expertise and allow them to work their magic.

5. Bring sentimental items that hold meaning for your family, if any. These can add a personal touch to the photographs and make them even more special.

Remember, the goal of the session is to capture the love and joy that surrounds your little miracle. Relax, enjoy the experience, and trust in the photographer’s ability to create beautiful images.

I have been meaning to write this post for quiet some time now. Many have listened to me talk about it. It truly means so much to me, so I am taking the time while I have it today to get it out.

With the new technology we have at our finger tips, I believe we have forgotten how important it is to print our images. Whether it be a quick snap shot from our phone or an investment placed with a professional photographer. I truly believe it is important to hold that memory between our finger tips. I speak to my clients daily about the value of a print. What will you have to show your kids when they’re your age, now?

Think about it…

How much trust have you placed in technology? Starring at a computer screen vs. an actual print in your hand that can be passed down from generation to generation. Which do you trust? Yes, I do believe having digitals is important as a back up so you can make copies and add to your walls. But, do you?

I have a box in my garage of images of when my children were babies. Not just from a professional photographer but from my point and shoot of the days, the disposable cameras we all once held in our hands before the “phone” took over. The days where I held the film camera in my hand which also started my journey as a professional and still sits in my closet. It is the same camera that I find in old photos of my parents with me as a baby. My point in telling you this is that this generation and generations to come don’t have the advantage of pulling out an old box out from the garage or using the old camera their parents once used. I can always go to that box in my garage or stare at the images on my walls but I do quickly forget about the images that were lost on a hard drive or are even sitting on my computer now.

So I hope this post inspires you, alerts you and encourages you to print your images. Print your memories. We take pictures not because we don’t want to forget but because they were important enough to snap it, capture it and document it. Dont always put your trust in a computer that can fail tomorrow but in the print that you can hold in your hand and share with your children as they grow and become parents themselves.

And of course I can’t post this without sharing an adorable newborn baby with you. 🙂

Recently, I was contacted by Businessing Magazine, an online publication dedicated to small business owners, to be featured in an interview for their “5 Questions With” series. Basically, the magazine editors ask the same five questions of business owners in a variety of fields and publish their answers so others can learn from their experiences. You can read my interview here.

I’ve learned a lot about running a business in my years as a baby and newborn photographer in Murrieta and I was happy to be able to share some of that knowledge with the Businessing Magazine readers, as well as educate people about what differentiates a professional photographer from someone with a nice camera.
