How to prepare for your newborn photography session at Inspirations Photography where everything is provided for you. Welcoming a newborn into your family is an exciting and life-changing event. Capturing those first few days with professional newborn photography creates timeless memories you’ll cherish forever. At Inspirations Photography, I want to ensure your session goes smoothly and your baby is comfortable, safe, and ready for their close-up. Here’s a helpful guide to prepare for your newborn photography session with me.
1. Schedule Early
Newborn photography sessions are best done within the first two weeks of life, ideally I like to see them between days 10 and 18. During this period, babies are sleepier, more flexible, and less prone to newborn acne. Although I have done them earlier than this and later than this as all newborns are different and go through stages differently. For nursing Moms, bringing them in too early can bring an extra fussiness if they are not getting the amount of milk needed and Mom is having to supplement. Bringing them in later can result in a very awake baby and for larger babies, they may not fit in many of my props. Contact us during your pregnancy to secure a session around your due date. Choosing a tentative date helps us all prepare for your session.
2. Keep Baby Awake Before the Session
Although, this may not work for many, depending on your travel time, it can help get them ready for their session. To get those adorable sleepy poses, try to keep your baby awake for 1-2 hours before the session. A bath, some playtime, or gentle stimulation can help. A sleepy baby is more likely to remain calm and pose easily. Sometimes I will hear rom parents that their baby was up most of the night…which can result in an amazing sleepy time for us.
3. Feed Your Baby Right Before the Session
A well-fed baby is a happy, sleepy baby. I like to call this being “milk drunk”. Plan to feed your little one right before your appointment. Depending on how far you are traveling, if you need the time to do this in my studio please feel free to do this before we start. If you’re breastfeeding, try to avoid caffeine and spicey foods 24 hours beforehand. Extra bottles of milk are also a recomendation or you are welcome to nurse during breaks.
5. Bring Essentials
Pack extra diapers, wipes, a pacifier, and extra milk. I keep my studio warm for baby’s comfort, so dress in light layers. Also, if you forget any of these items from home…my studio is fully stocked. I try to make sure this time is as comfortable and stress free as possible
6. Relax and Trust the Process
Our studio inside Womb’s Window 3D/4D Ultrasound Studio is fully equipped and sanitized, and safety is my top priority. I will handle your baby with care and ensure a calm, relaxing experience for everyone.
