Why Printing Your Newborn Photos Is So Important

Preserving Memories Beyond the Screen

As a newborn photographer for almost 20 years, I have had the privilege of capturing many of the most meaningful moments in a family’s life—their baby’s very first days. Those tiny fingers, soft wrinkles, and sleepy little expressions are more than just sweet—they’re fleeting. And while digital galleries are convenient, there’s something truly special about holding those memories in your hands. I know how time consuming figuring out what you want printed and where you should put these. I would love to help guide you in this decision at my newborn studio in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Here’s why printing your newborn photos is one of the most important decisions you can make for your family

Prints Make Memories Tangible

In our digital world, it’s easy to let photos live on phones or computers. But there’s something powerful about a print. You can touch it, display it, frame it. It becomes a real, physical part of your home—a daily reminder of a moment that mattered. I truly believe printed photographs help families keep their history alive, give children a tactile testament of the love their parents have for them, and may perhaps even instill some small sense of self-esteem in their hearts. I have always loved the quote from Richard L. Evans, “Children will not remember you for the material things you provide, but for the feeling that you cherished them.” Having images on your walls and in albums for them to look at and cherish over the years is so important. Printed Photos Tell Your Family’s Story. Imagine your baby growing up and flipping through an album of their newborn photos. It’s more than just nostalgia—it’s their story. It shows them how loved they were from the very beginning. That kind of connection is something digital files alone can’t offer.

Technology Changes, Prints Last

Hard drives fail. Phones get replaced. Social media platforms come and go. But a printed photo? It doesn’t need a charger or a login. It will still be there, decades from now, in an album or frame, waiting to be passed down to your child someday.

They Deserve to Be Displayed

Your baby’s first portraits deserve more than a quick scroll on a screen—they deserve a place on your walls, in your nursery, in your family room. Seeing them every day brings joy, sparks conversation, and makes your house feel even more like home.

Albums and Prints Are Heirlooms

When you invest in professional photography, you’re investing in your family’s legacy. Albums, wall art, and prints become keepsakes you’ll treasure forever—and that your child will treasure, too, when they’re older. I love designing albums and helping my clients choose images for their walls. Custom albums can be added to your session during the booking process.

So print the photos. Frame them. Create an album. Hang them proudly.

These are more than just pictures. They are your baby’s first story—the beginning of everything. And it deserves to be seen, shared, and remembered for generations to come.

Would you like help creating a print collection or heirloom album from your session with me? I’d love to guide you through the process and help turn your digital gallery into something you can hold forever. Be sure to contact me for booking information. What You Need to Know Before Hiring a Newborn Photographer

Are you considering newborn photography but have some questions? Here is what you need to know before hiring someone.

Don’t worry, I’m here to help!

As a studio newborn photographer, I understand the value and importance of capturing these early moments of your baby’s life! If you’re a new parent, you’re probably overwhelmed with all the decisions you need to make. Newborn photography doesn’t have to be one of them. Let me guide you through the process and provide you with all the information you need to capture the early moments of your baby’s life.

The Chance of Lost Memories

I cannot stress to you enough about the importance of documenting this stage in your newborns life. When I was scheduled to have a C-section with my second child 28 years ago, we completely forgot the camera. We did not have phones with a handy and quick camera back then. I now don’t have the memory of his birth. I am so sad to this day. Remembering all his sweet new details are gone. So trust me when I say you will not regret capturing this time and having them forever.

So….Let’s dive into some of the most common questions about newborn photography.

“What should I look for when hiring a newborn photographer?”

It’s important to choose a photographer who specializes in newborn photography and has experience working with infants. At my Wilmington newborn studio, I have years of experience working with newborns and their families. I’m dedicated to providing a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experience for you and your baby. I understand the importance of capturing these early moments, and I take pride in creating beautiful, timeless memories that you’ll cherish for years to come.

“What can I expect during a newborn photography session?”

During a newborn photography session, I’ll work to create a comfortable and safe environment for your baby, and guide you through the posing process. You can include your family members in the photos, and I encourage parents and siblings to participate in this special moment. If you have any specific poses or props in mind, I’m always happy to incorporate your ideas and preferences into the session. To capture the best moments, it’s important to schedule your newborn photography session as early as possible, ideally within the first two weeks of your baby’s life. I recommend booking your session as soon as possible during your pregnancy to ensure availability.

Every newborn is different so learning what they like and don’t like during our pose selection is important to me. Making sure they are warm and fed is number one priority. With my newborn prep guide that I send to you prior to your session date will help us make sure they are comfortable. Also, my number one priority is making sure they are safe! If there is a special pose that you are requesting, I make sure there is assistance and baby is at arms reach and hands are always on baby. Making you and your baby comfortable in my studio is important. If you have any questions about my work please don’t hesitate to ask.

“Do I need to bring anything?”

You don’t need to bring anything to the session that is needed for me to work. I provide all the props, headbands, bonnets including backdrops, and blankets. However, I encourage you to bring a few personal items that you would like to incorporate into the photos, like a special blanket or toy (this is optional)!

“When will I get my photos?”

After the session, you can expect to receive the final edited photos within 2-3 weeks. I offer a variety of prints and products that can be purchased when booking your session or once your images are sent. I’m happy to work with you to create a customized package that meets your specific needs.

“How much does newborn photography cost?”

Newborn photography sessions can range from $450 to $650+ at my Wilmington newborn photographer studio. Depending on the package. Please keep in mind that newborn photography is a specialized service that requires a lot of time, effort, and equipment. I’m dedicated to providing high-quality images & products that you’ll cherish for a lifetime! I always like to make sure my clients are aware of the importance of printing their images and adding them to their walls. Don’t take the chance of loosing images to a faulty hard rive.

How to prepare for your newborn photography session at Inspirations Photography where everything is provided for you. Welcoming a newborn into your family is an exciting and life-changing event. Capturing those first few days with professional newborn photography creates timeless memories you’ll cherish forever. At Inspirations Photography, I want to ensure your session goes smoothly and your baby is comfortable, safe, and ready for their close-up. Here’s a helpful guide to prepare for your newborn photography session with me.

1. Schedule Early

Newborn photography sessions are best done within the first two weeks of life, ideally I like to see them between days 10 and 18. During this period, babies are sleepier, more flexible, and less prone to newborn acne. Although I have done them earlier than this and later than this as all newborns are different and go through stages differently. For nursing Moms, bringing them in too early can bring an extra fussiness if they are not getting the amount of milk needed and Mom is having to supplement. Bringing them in later can result in a very awake baby and for larger babies, they may not fit in many of my props. Contact us during your pregnancy to secure a session around your due date. Choosing a tentative date helps us all prepare for your session.

2. Keep Baby Awake Before the Session

Although, this may not work for many, depending on your travel time, it can help get them ready for their session. To get those adorable sleepy poses, try to keep your baby awake for 1-2 hours before the session. A bath, some playtime, or gentle stimulation can help. A sleepy baby is more likely to remain calm and pose easily. Sometimes I will hear rom parents that their baby was up most of the night…which can result in an amazing sleepy time for us.

3. Feed Your Baby Right Before the Session

A well-fed baby is a happy, sleepy baby. I like to call this being “milk drunk”. Plan to feed your little one right before your appointment. Depending on how far you are traveling, if you need the time to do this in my studio please feel free to do this before we start. If you’re breastfeeding, try to avoid caffeine and spicey foods 24 hours beforehand.  Extra bottles of milk are also a recomendation or you are welcome to nurse during breaks.

5. Bring Essentials

Pack extra diapers, wipes, a pacifier, and extra milk. I keep my studio warm for baby’s comfort, so dress in light layers. Also, if you forget any of these items from home…my studio is fully stocked. I try to make sure this time is as comfortable and stress free as possible

6. Relax and Trust the Process

Our studio inside Womb’s Window 3D/4D Ultrasound Studio is fully equipped and sanitized, and safety is my top priority. I will handle your baby with care and ensure a calm, relaxing experience for everyone.

Capturing the Essence of Newborns

Capturing the essence of newborns requires a skilled and sensitive approach. Newborns are delicate and require special care during photography sessions. To capture their essence, I focus on highlighting their unique features and emotions.

An important aspect is capturing the newborn’s emotions and expressions. Newborns have a wide range of facial expressions, from peaceful and serene to curious and even grumpy

Lastly, capturing the tiny details of newborns is crucial for preserving their essence. From their tiny fingers and toes to their soft, wrinkled skin, these details make each newborn unique. Close-up shots that focus on these details can create intimate and captivating images.

Preparing for a Successful Newborn Photography Session

Preparing for a newborn photography session is crucial to ensure a smooth and successful experience. Here are some tips to help you prepare:

  • Schedule the session within the first two-three weeks. Newborns are often sleepier and more cooperative during the first two-three weeks of their lives. Scheduling the session during this time increases the chances of capturing those peaceful and curled-up poses.
  • Communication. Before the session, be sure you do not have any questions for me, your photographer, and review my tips and prep guide at least a day before your session. So you are aware of all expectations, preferences, and any special requests you may have.
  • Plan for breaks and feedings: Newborns require frequent breaks and feedings during the session. Allow enough time for diaper changes, feeding breaks, and soothing the baby back to sleep. Patience and flexibility are key when working with newborns. Which is why my sessions can last 2-3 hours.newborn sessionnewborn session

Preparing for the Photoshoot: Tips for Parents

Preparing for a newborn photoshoot is an exciting yet nerve-wracking experience for parents. These tips can still be applied at the 2-3 month mark as well. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your session:

  1. Choose the right time: We schedule the photoshoot when your baby is well-rested and fed, I have the most successful sessions at 10am. This will ensure they are in a good mood and more likely to cooperate during the session.
  2. Dress your baby comfortably: Opt for soft, comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement and allows us to remove them with ease if they are asleep.
  3. A warm studio: Newborns are used to the warmth of the womb, so it’s important to keep the room cozy during the shoot. This will help your baby feel comfortable and relaxed.
  4. Bring sentimental items: Consider bringing along special items that hold sentimental value, such as a family heirloom or a favorite blanket. These items can add a personal touch to the photos.

The Emotional Impact of Newborn Photos

Every parent knows the indescribable joy and love that comes with welcoming a newborn into their lives. It’s a time of overwhelming emotions and a deep desire to hold onto every fleeting moment. Newborn photos provide a tangible way to hold onto these memories and relive them over and over again.

You can remember the smell of their soft, newborn skin, the sound of their coos, and the feeling of their tiny hand wrapped around your finger. These images have the power to evoke emotions that are otherwise difficult to put into words.

As the years go by, these photos become even more precious. They serve as a reminder of how far your child has come and how much they have grown. They become a visual representation of your love and the bond you share with your little one. With each passing year, you can look back at these images and see the incredible journey of parenthood unfold.

Capturing Other Milestones

While newborn photos are undoubtedly special, the journey of parenthood doesn’t stop at 2 months. Your baby will continue to grow and reach new milestones, each one worth celebrating and capturing through photography.

As your baby becomes more aware of their surroundings, their personality will shine through in even more profound ways. From their first giggles to their attempts at crawling, these moments are equally as precious as those in the newborn stage.

Continuing to document these milestones through photography allows you to create a comprehensive visual story of your child’s early years. Each photo becomes a piece of the puzzle, showcasing their growth, development, and unique personality.

Moreover, these photos serve as a testament to your commitment as a parent. It’s a way of saying, “I see you, and I am here to support you every step of the way.”
